Changes to the ECCE Scheme:

From September 2016 children will be able to avail of an additional pre school year by starting in free pre-school when they reach age 3 and remaining in free pre-school until they transfer to primary school (provided that they are not older than 5 ½ years at the end of the pre-school year). To make sure that children can benefit from free pre-school as soon as they are eligible, parents will be able to enrol their children at three different points during the year: September, January and April (subject to places being available in their pre school).

ECCE Scheme

The ECCE Scheme was announced by the government in April 2009 and was introduced in January 2010.

The ECCE scheme runs over 38 weeks from September to June each year following St. Kilian's JNS calendar. Parents can send their children for additional hours or weeks in the year outside the ECCE calendar and will be charged at the current hourly rate for these additional hours.

The ECCE scheme provides one year free Pre-school education to every child in Ireland aged between 3 years 2 months and 4 years 6 months on 1st September each year.

Kathy b’s Montessori is participating in the new Government's ECCE scheme to provide a free pre-school year for children in the year before they start primary school. Because of the huge demand for these ECCE places we now run two daily ECCE classes from:

       09.00am - 12.00pm and
       12.10pm - 3.10pm

Places are in high demand and early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

The three hour ECCE session follows the same format as the Montessori classes and identical curriculums are followed in both ECCE daily sessions.

The introduction of the free Pre-school year was a major development by the Government in the area of early childhood education. At Kathy b’s we see first-hand every year how each child benefits from attending Montessori, especially the year before they commence Primary School. Our aim is to help each child be ready both socially and emotionally for Primary school by encouraging each child to be independent and to teach them the basic practical life skills they will need in Primary School.

Our daily routine helps each child adapt to the classroom environment and be prepared for their new environment when they leave Kathy b’s. Our qualified staff, ensure that each child’s individual needs are met and daily feedback and monthly written reports for each child ensure that parents are aware of what their child is learning and how they are developing both socially and emotionally.

At Kathy b’s we ensure that each child gets the best possible start learning in a safe, happy and sociable environment.
